CCH awards college scholarships to 5 new and 16 renewal students

Five high school seniors were awarded $10,000 college scholarships by the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless (CCH) last night. CCH offers a renewable scholarship of $2,500 a year to students who succeeded in school while coping with homelessness. Our new 2019 recipients are five students living in Chicago and suburban Ford Heights and Westmont, teens who graduated from schools in Chicago, Evanston, Oak Park, and Dyer, Indiana. They were honored at an awards ceremony hosted by Loyola University Chicago School of Law Thursday evening.

CCH state advocacy for bills to remove barriers

During this successful legislative session, our policy and organizing departments, along with our leaders, ushered six bills through the General Assembly that will bolster financial supports and food security for people experiencing severe poverty, find ways to better support youth leaving the foster care system, strengthen the Homeless Prevention Program, and remove barriers to housing for people who have come in contact with the criminal justice system. CCH also worked to increase funding to the Homelessness Prevention Program with an additional $5 million, bringing the total to $9 million annually, as well as an additional $1 million in funding to homeless youth programs.
