Illinois eviction moratorium extended for select households, eligible tenants must take action

As of November 14, Illinois landlords can begin filing eviction cases unless tenants provide a written statement that they should be protected by the COVID-19 eviction moratorium. Since March 2020, Gov. Pritzker has put a moratorium (or freeze) on most eviction case filings in Illinois. A new executive order extends the moratorium another 30 days, but with fewer protections that will make it easier for Illinois landlords to evict their tenants. These changes apply until at least December 12. To be protected by the new Illinois moratorium, eligible tenants must sign and deliver a declaration to your landlord.

CCH Statement: Our work continues after Fair Tax defeated

CCH is disappointed that many Illinois voters chose to not support the Fair Tax, a reform that would have made our tax system fairer and helped address the state’s structural deficit. We are grateful to all of CCH’s supporters, partners, and allies that worked tirelessly to fight for this reform, logging hundreds of hours of work. While the movement for progressive income for Illinois did not win this year, CCH, along with our partners in this fight, will continue to push for a system that ensures millionaires and billionaires pay their fair share.
